Here is an image taken recently at Arches National Park near Moab, Utah. This is taken from the Park Avenue Lookout at the head of the trail. The trail winds through the image near Courthouse Towers.
This particular image is a composite combining the rock formations you see and the sky above. The actual sky at the time was a boring blue and I decided this sky give the image a little more impact.
Till next time, live well and prosper.

And Now For The News!
I just returned from the southeast of Utah, namely Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. The above image is of "newspaper rock" which is about 65 miles south of Moab, Utah. I can't imagine what the stories on the rock would actually tell one, but it would make for interesting reading if one spoke "pictorial" language.
The trip was characterized by cold mornings (typical of the desert), mostly warm afternoons, and strong (80 kph) winds in blowing sand on 2 of the days. In the next few posts, I will share more of the Moab images.

Back in the Desert Again
I am back in the desert again. I am in my hotel room near the Salt Lake City airport and will drive the 4 hours to Moab in the morning. This trip will complete my collection of American Southwest images. I am looking forward to sharing these images with you.
Until next time,

Your Chair Awaits You
It is a peaceful Sunday morning and I have a day off work! Traditionally a family day I will spend some time with my grandson and then enjoy a family dinner.
The relaxing aspect of this day took me back to Galiano Island and my recent trip there. The above image is of a chair beside the small waterfall and peaceful garden. I spent some time in this chair recently just quietly meditating and chilling out. What a wonderful spot to quiet your being and become one with that which is.
I wish you all a peaceful Sunday.

Galiano Island
This past weekend I had the pleasure to spend a couple of days with family on nearby Galiano Island. While this trip was more about family than photography, I did have my camera with me and took a few images while we toured the island. I will certainly be back to photograph this picturesque area. It is only a 45 minute ferry trip from the mainland and is beautiful. This image is of Montegue Bay which is only 15 minutes from the main ferry terminal and the Galiano Inn where we stayed. I am hoping to return in mid June for more photography and relaxation.

An image I don't remember taking?
Today while sitting in front of my computer screen, a new photo appeared that I didn't remember taking. It was obviously from the Monument Valley Area, but I hadn't previously processed it. I liked the rock formations but the sky was just blah! I searched my files for an appropriate sky and found the one above. The only problem was the sun in the sky was shining from the right while the sun on the rock is obviously from the left. Well not to be too concerned about that, I opened trusty photoshop and merely selected the sky image and rotated it horizontally to make it appear that the sun was coming from the left. Then it was a simple matter to "copy" and "paste" the rocks onto the new sky. Voila!
I normally don't tell the world all my secrets, but I feel I can trust you:-))

More from Page Arizona
For the above image, I awoke at 4:15 am and drove about 30 minutes south of the town of Page and arrived there about 5 am. Fortunately to reach this viewpoint only required about 10 minutes hiking in the dark. Arriving at what I thought was a good vantage point I set up what I thought would be a good composition. Then I waited for the sun. My reward was the beautiful magenta color on the hills and a slight pink to the now brightening sky. I hope you enjoy.

Antelope Canyon
Antelope Canyon near Page Arizona has been a place I have wanted to see for a very long time. Recently the opportunity presented itself and I must say the formations are fantastic. The image above gives you an idea of the scale of the canyon as the photographer on the lower right side shows.
Antelope Canyon is made up of both the Upper and Lower Canyons. It is the most visited and photographed canyon in the United States. The Navaho name for the upper canyon is "Tse bighanilini" which means "the place where water runs through rocks". The lower canyon is named "Hasdestwazi" or "spiral rock arches".
A flash flood danger always exists, especially during monsoon season. Rain does not have to fall nearby for flash floods to occur. On August 12, 1997, 11 tourists including 7 from France, 1 from the United Kingdom, 1 from Sweden and 2 from the United States were killed in a flash flood in the Lower Canyon. Very little rain had fallen that day in the vicinity, but an earlier thunderstorm had dumped a large amount of rain into the basin 7 miles upstream.
Thus ends our information session for today.
Live well and prosper.
