This image reminded me of the old saying: "don't throw the baby out with the bath water". This phrase arose many many years ago when humans had an annual bath. This usually occurred in May of each year, with the men having first go at the "clean" water, then the other adults, and finally the children, with the babies being left the dirty, murky water. Hence the saying of being sure not to throw out the baby with the bath water.
This custom of bathing only once a year also spawned a number of other sayings and customs. Weddings traditionally take place in June, because in olden times this was only a month after taking a bath and the participants didn't smell too bad (?????) by then, although this was the reason that the bride traditionally carries flowers to provide a more pleasing aroma!!!
And now you know.
Live well and prosper

What a dealy loving couple they are!
ReplyDeleteI have always thought that hippos are tough and fierce, but I saw they were nestling together tenderly in your image. I believe that they were enjoying being together in the water. They bath themselves everyday, so they must be luckier than old time human.
Good job my dear photographer! You captured a wonderful moment!
love.
