No Rooms at the Hotel

The above image which I took in Tanzania, reminded me of a situation developing here in Vancouver right now. The Winter Olympics start in less than 2 weeks and hotel rooms and traffic is expected to become difficult to say the least. Here at work today is the first day of the Olympic airspace restrictions and as supervisor I have been working for 4.5 hours and am taking my first break. I was scanning some images and this one reminded of the difficulty of finding accommodation in Vancouver during the games. Perhaps this should be call the Lion Hotel!!
Till next time, take a deep breath and relax.

The Mark of Time

I have often thought of the concept of "time" and mentioned it in previous blog entries. I think we can all agree that there is no such thing as time per se. At least nothing that we can put our hands on, or see, or even hear. But nontheless "time" leaves its mark in a very real way.

We tend to get slower physically over "time", our mental acuity becomes degraded over "time", "time leaves physical lines on our bodies, and our personality and outlook change over "time". The above image that I took a couple of years ago reveals that time even leaves its mark on the physical universe. These lines in the sandstone near Drumheller, Alberta reveal some of the weathering that has taken place over "time".

How do we counteract these effects of "time" one might ask??? I know of no way other that to accept the effects of time gracefully, with a good attitude and a daily smile.

Wishing you days of smiles and love,

Hard to Know What to Believe!!!

The above photo appears to have been taken with a deep space telescope with a camera attached. It also appears to show a portion of the Milky Way on the left side of the image. However, none of the above is fact as the above image was created without a camera, telescope or optical device of any kind. No, I created the above image totally using Photoshop software! I am also able to create lightning (when I perfect the process) and a myriad of other images, none of which exist except in my mind (which I believe exist, but that is another argument).

So now that we cannot believe what we see and we obviously cannot what we hear, even if we hear it personally. Software now exists that can record the sound of my voice and then reproduce a totally different conversation. So if I phone you sometime, it is possible that someone could be using a software program to manipulate what you hear, simply by typing into a computer and my voice says the typed words. You would then "swear" that it was me talking to you. This is pretty scary stuff. There are some that still deny that man has been on the moon, and that the whole scene was recorded in a studio in Hollywood. Well, who knows???

Until next time, live well and prosper

My New Girlfriend!!

Thought it was time that I introduced my new girlfriend to my many thousands of readers:-)

I took this image several years ago and just came across it recently. The glass of wine looked so inviting that I thought she might be the perfect woman. Not very warm though!!!

Not much to report today, but just thought I would share this image with all of you.

Ahh, Now That's Relaxing!!

A hot tub, a friend and perhaps a drink. What could be better? I am at work having a break in the 25th day of the last 27 that I have worked. As I was scrolling through some of my images I came across these 2 guys, (girls, guy and girl, who knows) enjoying life in the African sun. Just thought I would share this image while I ponder how nice a hot tub would be right now!!

How Do Porcupines Make Love??

As the old saying goes: Carefully, very carefully!!!! The above image was taken in Haines, Alaska a couple of years ago, and I must say the gentleman was more interested in the activity than the young lady was:-)

I am not sure if it relates or not, but I came across a quote from Albert Einstein today: "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them". This would seem to indicate that we can benefit from changing to a new way of thinking from time to time. Or put another way, maybe by thinking outside the box while we evaluate solutions for problems that have arisen from previous faulty thinking.

Until my next brilliant thought, live well and prosper.

Cheers,

Don't Throw the Hippo Out with the Bath Water!

This image reminded me of the old saying: "don't throw the baby out with the bath water". This phrase arose many many years ago when humans had an annual bath. This usually occurred in May of each year, with the men having first go at the "clean" water, then the other adults, and finally the children, with the babies being left the dirty, murky water. Hence the saying of being sure not to throw out the baby with the bath water.

This custom of bathing only once a year also spawned a number of other sayings and customs. Weddings traditionally take place in June, because in olden times this was only a month after taking a bath and the participants didn't smell too bad (?????) by then, although this was the reason that the bride traditionally carries flowers to provide a more pleasing aroma!!!

And now you know.

How About a "Do Over"???

Here is an image of a red fox that I took several years ago in Haines, Alaska. The image that I rendered today is quite different and more vivid that the one I did shortly after taking the image. To my mind, this one portrays the character of the animal better and features him/her (can't remember) more prominently.

It got me to thinking about "do overs". This might apply more to life than photographic images. If we don't do something to our satisfaction we could always ask our parents, children, teachers etc for a "do over". It was an effective way of saying "I am sorry, I am not happy with my comment'behaviour

What a Difference a Year Makes

Today the temperature is in the +4 to +8C range with the threat of rainshowers again. I was looking at some images from last winter and came across this one. I recall being out in knee deep snow with my camera to capture this somewhat rare situation in Vancouver.
For some things the change from year to year is quite obvious. The most glaring example for me is my grandson who just turned 3 a couple of months ago. The difference in a year is quite startling and I expect the next few years will be the same.
At this time of year, I usually like to ponder on the changes in my life during the past 365 days as well as try and formulate what I will do in the next 365.
What ever happens though happens for a reason, even though I might not be aware of it at the time, and it is all good in the long run.
Here's hoping the changes in your life in the next 365 days challenge you to better things and development of your self.
Live well and prosper
