My Southwest US Folio

I am building a folio of images of the US southwest desert areas. The most challenging issue is which images of the many thousands to include and how to best print them. My first test image is above, and while it looks good to me on a computer screen, my challenge is to make it look just as good on paper. Once I succeed to a point that I am happy, I will print about 25 images and include them in a nice folder to be obtained as a collectors item.
Stay tuned for the launch which I hope will be during the summer sometime.

Ageing Wood

I have always been intrigued by the graceful way that wood ages. Even after a tree has died it continues to provided us with beautiful designs and lovely contrast. I was in Galiano Island recently and took many images of fallen trees and branches. There is a certain serenity about them and one wonders what events they have seen in their lifetime.

I attach one image here for your contemplation and enjoyment.

I Must Go Back To Tofino This Year!

Every so often I review images that I had taken in different locations that I have not been to for some time. Tofino is one of those places. A 1.5 hour ferry ride and about a 4 hour drive from my home will find me on the west coast of Canada facing the Pacific Ocean with the next stop west being Japan, China and eastern Russia. The above image was taken in the early morning and consists of a relatively long exposure in the range of 20 to 30 seconds which gives he ocean a silky feel. As I look at the image I think of all the other images I took there and have decided I must return to add to my portfolio. Now if I only had more time (and probably money) I would return to Ukraine, China, Thailand, Africa, Australia, etc, etc....sigh!!!! So many places!

In the meantime, live well and prosper

I Love the Color

Each year a festival of color erupts just south of the border with the LaConnor Tulip Festival. I always enjoy driving down and spending a day bathed in color. I came across this image which I had taken last year. While I had every intention to make it this year, the weather or my schedule did not cooperate. I will mark my calendar for next year and hope to get some award winning shots. In the meantime, enjoy this one.

Live well and prosper.

Where Does The Road Lead?

Many years ago, a quote attributed to Yogi Berra captured my amusement. It was "if you come to a fork in the road, take it!!" Recently in south east Utah I had the opportunity to take the classical road image. While I got low over the middle of the highway carefully listening for traffic coming from behind me, I captured the above image. While not exactly a "fork", it does lead one (or me at least) to wonder how we choose which "road" or "path" to follow in life. For instance, does the road appear and we decide whether or not to take it?, or does the road or path appear in response to our thoughts and desires and perceived mission in life?

It is sort of like a "chicken and egg" argument. I guess for me the road appears in response to the path I have already chosen. However as my 3.5 year old grandson tells me "you could be wrong grampa"!

Moon Over the Desert

This image is from my recent trip to Canyonlands National Park in SE Utah. During the last night we were about 65 miles south of Moab. I like the juxtaposition of the moon and the tree stump as well as the detail still showing in the tree trunk.
